1.
All through the land I see ghosts of you In my empty hand too Where we used to gather Under the plane tree It’s all coming back to me Then the wren calls And the shadows fall Will you come back from the war? Will you come back? Will you come back? Will you come back from the war? In the gunpowder In the fallen bricks Where the foul weather hit You feel free, I understand You feel stuck, I understand You want change, I understand You’re just tired, I understand Speak to your mother Listen to your son Spend a day with someone Then the wren calls And the shadows fall Will you come back from the war? Will you come back? Will you come back? Will you come back from the war? No idea when, no idea how The story ends Or what happens now

No matter how dark it gets, No matter how dark it gets, Hold on to the light Hold on to the light Strange times, are you keeping well? Yeah, surviving, but who can tell?
The day is burning into night All the birds are taking flight Hold on to the light Hold on to the light Hold on, hold on, hold on Well I’m thinking of you with a needle and thread And all the words that go unsaid I know the rules but I don’t like the game I watch the sky and wait for rain Wait for a good rain Wait for a good rain No matter how dark it gets, Those are the words on the sea defence I know you worry, what’s coming next But no matter how dark it gets Hold on to the light Hold on to the light Hold on, hold on, hold on
3.
You took me to the river, fighting You couldn’t let me on my way But you came from the hills crying I guess you never had your say You took me to the shallow water You said this is where we can play But you went into the woods calling And I was all covered in clay I guess it was the best, the best we could do I guess it was the best, the best we could do I know we made a mess, a mess of things too I guess it was the best we could do

Dead Stars 04:26
working out on the boat now working out at sea I don’t know how I found you I don’t know how you found me I don’t know how I found you I don’t know how you found me working out on the boat at sea standing out in the night in the light of the dead stars I can feel you so near now I can feel you so far I can feel you so near now I can feel you so far standing out in the light of the dead stars out in the light of the dead stars out in the night wherever you are l ead me home safe from harm by the light of the dead stars I’m trying to play my hand right I’m trying to get ahead of the game but I don’t know what is fear sometimes I don’t know what is faith I don’t know what is fear sometimes I don’t know what is faith I’m trying to play my hand right I’m trying to get ahead of the game soon I will be moving to another part of town for some reason I’m tearing up for some reason I’m breaking down I can feel you so near now I can feel you so far standing out in the light of the dead stars out in the light of the dead stars out in the night wherever you are lead me home safe from harm by the light of the dead stars out in the light of the dead stars out in the night wherever you are lead me home safe from harm by the light of the dead stars by the light of the dead stars by the light of the dead stars

about

“It was January 2021, ‘Lockdown 3’. One of the things that helped me stay positive was going for long walks. Walking along the seafront near Brighton I saw etched into the seawall in big rough lettering: ‘no matter how dark it gets, hold on to the light’. A song emerged, and this spirit of hope in dark times weaves through the whole EP.”
